One down...

Just a little update on the treatment I had on Tuesday. I went in to Joe Arrington Cancer Center on Tuesday for my appt. I got there at 9:00 but I had to meet with my blood doctor and do a lot of sitting around and waiting. We finally started treatment at 11:40. The nurses were great and the IV didn't hurt at all. I tried to sleep but only fell asleep for 15 minutes. The rest of the time I read. The treatment lasted 4 hours and 40 minutes. It passed by pretty quickly until the end. I finally got out of there at 5:00. Hopefully in the weeks to come I'll start just a little earlier.

I'll go in every week to get my blood drawn to make sure my glucose level is okay and then I'll start my treatments. We are waiting for David's blood work to come back. If he is heterozygous then the baby only has a 50% chance of having NAIT and we would look into drawing the babys blood in-utero to check the platelet count. (which of course scares me to death!!) If her platelet count is normal, we would most likely stop treatments. Each dose I get is thousands of dollars, plus there are side effects from the steriods too...we don't want to continue treatment if we don't have to. The doctor is pretty sure that David is Homozygous though...he said around 60-70% of people are. If he is, we'll continue the infusions until she is born.

I feel pretty good except for the headaches I've been getting since Tuesday and I also haven't been sleeping very well. I'm on steriods to help the IVIG work better so I'm pretty sure that is the cause.

Thanks so much for all your prayers. I will try to keep the blog updated as much as I can.
