Happy 4th of July & NAIT update

Well the 4th of July has come and gone. We had a great time. We went to some friend's house and watched an awesome fireworks show and popped a few fireworks ourselves. Ethan had a blast and Colton LOVED popping fireworks. He talked about it for days afterward. Here are some pics from our day.

Mr. Ethan

Running around!

I love this pic...it looks like Ethan is playng basketball!

See-sawing!

Watching the fireworks!

On another note, we got our blood tests back and its confirmed...this baby has 100% chance of having NAIT. Not the news we wanted to hear but at least we're doing the right thing as far as treatments go. I have had my 7th treatment and I have 8 more to go. We have set a c-section date for 9/9/09. (Ethan & Ellisyn's b-day will only be 5 days apart! I already know how much fun it will be planning two birthday parties each year so close together :) ) She will be 4 weeks early. I go in tomorrow to have my first round of steriod shots for her lungs. I'll be 28 weeks tomorrow. We are praying that first of all, the treatments work and she is born with a high platelet count and no inter cranial hemmorages. Secondly we pray that we are taking her at the right time and that her lungs are mature and she has no premmie problems. Of course in our case, its much safer to take her early and deal with any premmie issues she may have because leaving her in my womb is way too dangerous.

Last week, I had my glucose tolerance test to screen for gestational diabetes and it came back high. We decided not to do the 3 hour test as we knew it would come back high as well due to me taking prednisone. I have been checking my blood sugars for a week and mostly they are fine, just high in the evenings. Today I went in for another check with the endocrinologist and he has decided to put me on insulin in the evenings. We will re-evaluate as time goes on.

We also had an appointment with a pediatraic cardiologist this week to check Ellisyn's heart. My doctor had noticed there might be some thickening of the walls of her heart and fluid around her heart. Good news...the cardiologist saw nothing to be concerned with! We are so thankful! I will go back in 6 weeks so he can do another scan but everything looks great right now. God is so good!

I've also set an appointment with United Blood Services to donate my platelets a few days before she is born. If she does need a platelet transfusion, I'm the best doner as she will have antibodies in her system and see my platelets as her own and her platelet level should go up really well. Of course we're praying that she needs no transfusion...its just a precaution.

So now, we just sit back and pray and let God work his miracles. Only 8 weeks left. Of course these will be a long 8 weeks...I'm really sick of being stuck with needles. Oh well, I wouldn't have it any other way in our situation. We're blessed that we have a team of doctors who are willing to work with us with our treatments.

Until next time...

Have a blessed week!

Crystal,

I know none of this fun, but I also know you know it is worth it in the end. I can sympathize about the insulin. I had to take about 4 insulin shots a day and test my blood about 5 times a day for my entire pregnancy. As you know, we also ended up with preemie situation where Will's lungs were not completely developed. As you said, though, we were at the point that we could deal with the lung issues outside of my womb and for him to stay any longer was endangering both of our lives.

God is good! Pray and trust in him, like I know you are. You are all in my thoughts and prayers!

Love ya, Anna Leta
